In addition to creating new games, Mr. Johnson hand-makes beautiful sets for Camelot, Cam, Grand Camelot, and his variant, River Camelot, often using 28mm wargaming figures as pieces. You can view these unique items here. 15 July 2012 Chivalry, the forerunner of Camelot, was introduced by George Parker in the 1880s. You can see fourteen photographs of beautiful Chivalry boards here, and twelve more photographs of magnificent complete Chivalry sets here, all newly uploaded, and part of the WCF collection. 14 July 2012 In the 1930s, Parker Brothers advertised several different special edition Camelot sets that included red and white ivoroid pieces. But no red and white pieces have ever been discovered other than those that were included in Grand Camelot sets, and much later in the 1955 Camelot Edition, the Waddington Camelot Edition, or the 1958 Camelot edition. And those were either wooden (Grand Camelot) or plastic (1955, Waddington, 1958). Now a Tournament Edition Camelot set has been acquired for the WCF collection that includes red and white pieces of a heretofore unknown type. These may simply be a 1930s Camelot enthusiast's substitution of chess pieces for standard tournament pieces--or not. The set dates from the 1940s. The pieces are of the well known "ivoroid" type, and the board's playing surface is of the well known "pictorial" type, but the board back and the box are firsts for the WCF. This variant has both a partnership and an individual version. Four-Handed Chivalry is unlike all other Camelot variants in that 1.) only Knights are used, and 2.) the solitary object of the game is to capture all opposing Knights; moving Knights into a Castle has no significance. This is the first release of on-line real-time Cam play. 31 May, 2009 The 2008-2009 WCF Camelot World Championship Tournament that began on July 20, 2008, has been decided. Dan Troyka of Saline, Michigan, USA, has retained his title of WCF Camelot World Champion. The original eight challengers for the crown were divided into two four-man round robin candidates groups. Each group member played a best-two-out-of-three-game match against each of the other three members of his group. The two group winners, Michael Nolan and Jerry LaSala, played off in a best-three-out-of-five-game Candidates Final Match. Mr. Nolan won the contest, giving him the right to challenge Mr. Troyka, the reigning World Champion, in a best-four-out-of-seven-game match for the Championship. That match began on February 7, 2009, in Troy, Michigan, USA. A second session was held on March 8, and a third and final session on May 31. The time limit for all games was set at 40 moves in 2.5 hours. After sixteen total hours of play, the match was won by Mr. Troyka by a score of 4-1/2 to 1-1/2 (four wins, one loss, one draw), thus he retains his title of WCF Camelot World Champion. 17 March 2009 Eric Whitford of Wasilla, Alaska is in the process of creating Camette sets for the Fur Rondy Arts and Crafts Fair in Anchorage, Alaska. 15 March 2009 An annotated score of the fourth game of the World Championship Match in the form of a Camelot "movie" (showing the position after every move) has been added here. 13 March 2009 An annotated score of the third game of the World Championship Match in the form of a Camelot "movie" (showing the position after every move) has been added here. 11 March 2009 An annotated score of the second game of the World Championship Match in the form of a Camelot "movie" (showing the position after every move) has been added here. 8 March 2009 The WCF Camelot World Championship Match resumed today at 10:00 a.m. EST in Troy, Michigan, USA. After five hours of play, the match between the current champion, Dan Troyka, and the challenger, Michael Nolan, was adjourned with two games (the third and fourth of the match) completed, each player having won one game. Mr. Troyka now leads the best-four-out-of-seven-game match by a score of two wins to one. The best-four-out-of-seven-game contest pits the challenger, Michael Nolan, against the current world champion, Dan Troyka. This is the first over-the-board Camelot World Championship contest in history. The time limit for all games is 40 moves in 2.5 hours. Mr. Troyka has been world champion since 2003. Mr. Nolan won a series of Candidates Elimination Matches to earn the right to be the challenger. After five hours of play, the match was adjourned with two games completed. The ig Game Center and BrainKing Internet game portals have both implemented Camelot. These are the first releases of on-line Camelot play. The ig Game Center offers real-time play, and BrainKing offers turn-based play. 22 November 2008 Another Camette opening move has been found to result in a forced loss of the game for White: C2-C4. That means twelve of the possible twenty-two opening moves result in a win for Black. 21 November 2008 Two more Camelot opening moves have been discovered to immediately lose material: C6-B7, and its left-right reflection J6-K7. Here's the main line: 1.C6-B7 E10-D9, 2.B7-A6 G10-E10-C8, 3.D7xB9 I10-G10-E10-C10xA8 winning a Knight for a Man. That brings the total of the one hundred possible opening moves that lose material to Black to fourteen. 10 November 2008 The Group 1 winner in the 2008-2009 WCF Camelot World Championship Tournament has been decided. The World Camelot Federation website has a a permanent new home at www.WorldCamelotFederation.com, a URL owned for many years by Michael Nolan. The website's content at its old location of http://groups.msn.com/WorldCamelotFederation has been transferred to the new location and greatly expanded. This move allows much greater design flexibility and storage volume, and avoids unwanted, forced MSN advertising. The WCF also has a new logo. 18 September 2008 Chaxx 1.13 has won a best four-out-of-seven-game match for the World Computer Camelot Championship against the other entrant, Zillions Camelot. The World Camelot Federation has been established by Michael Wortley Nolan.
